Deviating from the ‘au naturel’ brand that Berkeley tends to express, cosmetic surgery is an increasingly sought after service desired by locals. A quick search can tell us that a potential patient’s local options are limited to disappointingly sterile environments from corporate owners. For a more boutique and independent offering, Bay Area residents often travel to Los Angeles, to be immersed in a faux-luxury overdeveloped Beverly Hills environment. Either way, the patient is forced way outside of the aesthetic and culture they know and love – which led Dr. Kasra Eliasieh, a seasoned reconstructive and oculofacial plastic surgeon, to enlist Studio Anand Sheth to envision Lunata’s flagship clinic as an authentic expression of modern Berkeley.
Situated intimately within a post-modern medical building in the Telegraph corridor, Lunata greets guests with a refreshing dose of calm; neutral tones and earth-inspired textures invite the public into the ethos of Lunata’s brand. Gentle curves ease sharp corners, introducing softness to the circulation paths of this compact clinic. Thoughtfully selected furnishings accommodate multiple body types and mobilities while challenging the visual norm of a healthcare waiting room. Anchored by striking artworks by local female makers, Terri Lowenthal, Melanie Abrantes, Serena Mitnik-Miller, Beth van Hoesen and Julia Goodman, each touchpoint and transition between are fueled by regional narrative.
